The Superbowl has become one of my favorite days of the year. Mostly because the last 4 years I’ve picked the winner and I must say it causes tension in our household because it has always been opposite of John’s pick. My biggest victory to date…. when the NY Giants beat the Patriots! I was beyond excited when the Giants won! I think Tom Brady is way over-rated and I told John before the game even started that Tom thinks he has this one in the bag and he’s going to walk on the field cocky and forget everything……well if you don’t remember, that’s exactly what happened! What’s even better??? Eli Manning played his best game ever and he was able to have a Superbowl win under his belt like his big bro! I will never forget dancing around the living room and rubbing it in John’s face. He was NOT happy, it was like HE lost the Superbowl!
This year I rooted for the Green Bay Packers! I had two reasons behind this pick: 1) John’s parents live in Wisconsin and we should be rooting by default, and 2) I CANNOT stand Brett Favre! I just wish someone would PAY him to stay OUT of the media! He’s OLD (literally) news and he needs to get over himself. So, now that he’s not on the team anymore, what more motivation for Aaron Rogers (I didn’t know his name until the game started) to win this game? I mean wouldn’t you want to do everything in your power to be in the spotlight and be like “take that Brett”? Is it me or is everyone else sick of wondering what his next move is going to be? Is he going to play next year? Is he really injured? Was the picture of his “meat bracelet” really meant to go to his wife? SERIOUSLY, so tired of him! Oh and his jean commercials………BARF. So naturally, I rooted for the Packers and THEY WON!
John’s parents were in town, Chrissy, Cindy, Ben, and Dylan came over and we had a great time and a lot of yummy food. It was a GREAT day!
This post wouldn’t be complete without mention of Superbowl commercials! I have to be honest… not a huge fan. I would say there are 1 or 2 good ones and the rest are booorrring. This year… same thing… 2 good ones and they were both car commercials. The BEST ONE? Well if you’re from Michigan, that choice should be obvious. The Chrysler commercial was amazing. I’ll admit, I wasn’t paying much attention to the car… were you? I was too busy trying to name off all of the different places they showed a clip of! The best part of the this commercial… it brought much needed attention to Detroit. I’ve heard stories about Detroit from back in the day and if you were to walk the streets now, you wouldn’t even know people were talking about the same city. If it weren’t for the museums, Tigers, Ford Field, and Joe Louis Arena, who knows where this city would be. I love Detroit (in the daylight). I don’t know if Detroit will ever be what it once was, but it’s sure nice to dream.
I wondered if anyone outside of Michigan was actually impressed with this ad or are we just bias? I found a few articles and it was interesting to read the comments people left. One writer said, “…I thought the purpose of ads was to build brand loyalty and sell stuff, and the last time I checked Chrysler wasn't doing a very good job of that. To me the ad just as easily could have been made by the Detriot Visitors and Convention Bureau or the Detriot Chamber of Congress not by Chrysler.” True… however, they way I look at it… it was “generous” for Chrysler to take the attention off of them (and pay for a 2 minute ad) and focus on not only the city, but paid homage to GM & Ford, reminding everyone what the Motor City has done and what it’s capable of regardless of the city’s reputation.
