Baby Food @ 7 Months

From day one, I knew I wanted to make Elle's baby food.  I haven't given her much up to this point because she doesn't have that big of an appetite; however since she will be 7 months old on Wednesday, I have no choice but to start introducing her into the world of FOOD.

I used jar food up until this point because there's not a lot they can eat and since she was eating so little, it was pointless to make batches!

My pediatrician recommended "Super Baby Food" by Ruth Yaron!

I'll admit, I was slightly overwhelmed by the amount of info, but once you figure it out, it's such a fantastic book.  Now, she goes all out, up to the point of grinding the grains for her babies cereal.  I will be changing my cereal to the commercial brand she recommends, but I will not be grinding grains.  NO THANKS :)  I will be; however, making the fruit and veggies she recommends at each month.

I love this book because she assumes you know nothing and gives a list of fruits and veggies that are age appropriate and every month you get a new list and that means every month, Elle will be trying something new.  This book helps you think outside the box in terms of meals.  It also tells you all the different sources you can get protein from and that will prevent you from feeding your child Gerber's "Turkey Dinner"!  Which I'd also like to mention is the first food Elle spit out.

Anyways, the book is awesome and I'm really excited to get cookin!  Since you have to wait 4 days before you introduce something new, I only got to pick a few off the list for the 7 month mark.  This months menu: Asparagus, Peas, Winter Squash, Green Beans, Pears, Mango, Papaya, and Banana's.

My Dad bought me Elle crayons, so I thought it would be fun to get creative and make a reminder of the things we are working on with her this month.  As you can see, I put a "sign" category on the sheet.  We've been working on those for awhile but sometimes you forget to sign to her as your doing something so hopefully its a better reminder.  We shall see.  She hasn't signed back yet; however, her eyes light up when you sign for her "bottle".  Once she starts getting the hang of these signs, we will introduce new ones.

So that's what we've been up to.... aren't you jealous?

  1. Hey Kathy =) You should check out nurturebaby.com - she has lots of recipes for age appropriate baby foods, and also a PDF you can print out to keep track of what you've already fed/are feeding :) Pretty handy!
